Hurikaduwa Vocational Training Centre, Menikhinna

Established in 2008 by the Central Province Chief Ministry, the Nanoda (නැණෝදා) Vocational Training Centre in Hurikaduwa, Menikhinna, was founded with the objective of empowering school dropouts in the Central Province with skills and training and integrating them into the workforce. Over nearly two decades, this institution has rendered a tremendous service in enhancing the skills of the youth in the region. By introducing courses that suit contemporary needs and fulfilling the aspirations of today's youth, the center has been able to validate professional competencies and secure employment opportunities for them. As a major milestone, the institute has been registered as an approved institution under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), introducing courses certified with the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). The institution is approved to conduct the following courses under TVEC registration number P09/0224.

The Maha/Henawala Bilingual Mixed School, established in the 1960s, was originally founded to facilitate education for the children of families engaged in local hemp-based industries. This school provided primary education for children from the Grama Niladhari divisions of Hurikaduwa, East Hurikaduwa, West Hurikaduwa, and Madige, falling under the Kundasale Divisional Secretariat Division. However, with the expansion of transport facilities, students shifted toward popular schools. Due to an insufficient number of students enrolling annually in Grade 1, the school's popularity declined day by day, ultimately leading to the closure of its operations as it became impossible to maintain. Taking this situation into consideration, the authorities focused on utilizing the school buildings for another productive purpose, which led to the birth of the Menikhinna, Hurikaduwa Nanoda Vocational Training Centre.
